Automated OCR and Form
Processing with Validated Release into Hummingbird
DM5 |
FormCapture DM is the cost effective
solution to integrate form processing and automation
into your Hummingbird DM5 environment. Now you can take
scanned forms, OCR the contents, extract key information
like invoice number, save the image in your DM5 library,
and automatically fill its profile using the extracted
information. Once in DM5, the image can be integrated
into your business processes and used in workflow tasks.
Form Template Design
By designing templates in FormCapture DM, you tell the
system how to recognize and interpret the forms you process.
You can also use the designer to create blank forms for
printing that include marks which allow FormCapture DM
to better recognize the filled forms.
When designing the template, you establish rules for how
the form fields are related to Hummingbird data:
- Data fields from the form may be mapped to a profile
field in DM5.
- Data fields from the form may be specified as being
attached to the image in DM5 for full text-indexing.
With this option, the image will be included in the
DM5 search results in case of a search for any document
containing that text.
- Rules are also established for exceptions: in case
the results of OCR do not match an existing database
value, the form can be routed for correction by an
operator, or the value can be added to the database.
Recognition
Pages scanned or received by fax are processed for recognition
by FormCapture DM. During recognition FormCapture DM attempts
to match the form against the templates you have designed,
and then recognize text using:
- OCR (machine-print text recognition in more then
170 languages)
- ICR (hand-print text recognition in more then 90
languages)
- OMR (recognition of marks of various shapes)
- OBR (recognition of commonly used barcodes)
Recognition can be started by hand, or can be automatic
(running silently on a server) by using TerraLink's OCR
Auto Indexer. Validation/Verification
To verify and validate the results of the recognition,
FormCapture DM offers:
- Inspection and correction on-screen by operators
of characters recognized with poor confidence.
- Verifying of values against Hummingbird DM5 and
other databases, including cross reference (for example,
if customer number is 123 then customer name must
match XYZ, if no match then it is rejected).

Values that are rejected or unable to be verified
against the database are sent to an operator interface
for correction and/or validation.
Release to DM
Once through the Validation/Verification stage, the
image is stored in DM5. The resulting text is moved
to DM5 profile fields as per the mappings defined during
the template design. Now the form can be easily found
within DM5. Using a product such as Hummingbird Workflow,
a workflow task linked to the image may be automatically
started based on the document's profile information.
Pricing & Options
Pricing is based on the volume of pages (A4 or Letter
size) to be processed per month (ppm). Please contact
TerraLink for exact prices and options.
Software maintenance of 18% is added to the final price
and entitles you to unlimited support and any future
versions and releases. This maintenance fee must be
paid each year.
